Privacy Policy for the MyHaul Chrome Extension

Effective Date: 19th Janurary 2025

Welcome to the MyHaul Chrome Extension (“Extension,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, share, and protect your personal data when you use our Extension, primarily operating in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US).

1. Scope of This Privacy Policy

This policy applies to all users of the MyHaul Chrome Extension. By installing or using the Extension, you consent to the practices described here. If you do not agree with these practices, please uninstall or discontinue using the Extension.

2. Data We Collect

We may collect and process the following types of personal data:

  • Account Information:
    • Email Address – provided during sign-up to create and maintain your user account.
    • Username & Password – your password is hashed before storage; we do not store it in plain text.
    • Authentication Tokens (JWT) – used to keep you logged in. These tokens may be stored locally in your extension storage.
  • Product Browsing History: We collect details about product pages you visit, including the URL and any product schema data (e.g., title, price) found. We do not store data about non-product pages.
  • User-Generated Content – “Haul Collections”: When you save products to a Haul Collection, we store those lists on our servers and associate them with your account. If you delete your account, these lists become “Guest Lists” and remain publicly viewable unless they were already public. Your username and email are disassociated.
  • Location (Country Only): We use an external API to detect your browsing country. While the API may see your IP address and return more detailed location info (city, ISP, etc.),we only store your country. We also cache the country locally in the Extension.
  • Analytics Data: We track certain usage events (e.g., when you arrive on a product page or navigate within the Extension interface) to understand feature usage and improve the user experience. We do not collect personal data beyond what is stated here.
  • Local Storage: We store limited data (e.g., JWT, cached country info, pre-sign-up product browsing history) in the Extension’s local storage to provide personalized features and recognize returning users.
  • Chrome Permissions: Our extension requires broad host permissions (<all_urls>) and uses the Chrome webRequest API to detect product pages on any domain, so we can fetch the necessary data to provide our services. We do not store any non-product data or otherwise collect personal information from non-product pages.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Account Management: To create and maintain user accounts, authenticate logins, and provide customer support.
  • Product Features: To detect if you are on a product page, save products to Haul Collections, and show browsing history.
  • Improving Services: We analyze usage patterns (via analytics) to enhance the Extension’s functionality.
  • Location Customization: We use your country to tailor product listings or region-specific features.
  • Communication: We may email you about new features or important announcements, in line with your preferences and applicable laws.

4. Data Retention and Deletion

Browsing History: You can delete your product browsing history at any time. If not deleted, we retain it as part of your account.

Account Deletion: If you delete your account, we remove your personal information (email, username, password) from our databases. Your Haul Collections become “Guest Lists” and remain public unless already public.

Analytics Data: Retained in aggregated, anonymized form for internal analysis.

Logs: We may keep server logs (including IP metadata) for a limited time to ensure security and proper operation of our services.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

  • No Routine Sharing: We do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties, nor do we share it with marketing/ad networks.
  • Third-Party Services:
    • Location API: Your IP address may be seen by the geolocation service, but we only store your country.
    • Analytics Providers: Limited event data (e.g., interactions) may be processed by an external analytics service.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose data if required by law or subpoena, or to protect our rights and the safety of users or the public.

6. Security Measures

  • Encryption: We use TLS/SSL encryption for data transfers to our servers.
  • Password Handling: Passwords are stored using secure hashing algorithms; we never store plain-text passwords.
  • Access Control: Only authorized staff can access user data for service maintenance and improvements.

7. International Data Transfers

We primarily operate in the UK and the US. Your data may be transferred or stored in either region, subject to appropriate safeguards under the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, or other relevant laws. By using the Extension, you consent to these data transfers.

8. User Rights

  • Access & Update: You can view or update your personal info (email, username) in your account settings.
  • Delete Data: You may remove your product history or delete your account. Deleting your account removes personal data but retains Haul Collections as “Guest Lists.”
  • Opt-Out of Analytics: Depending on our analytics provider, you may opt out via browser settings or the provider’s opt-out mechanism.
  • Contact Us: For further assistance or questions, see our contact information below.

9. Children’s Privacy

Our Extension is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us to have it removed.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The “Effective Date” at the top indicates the latest revisions. Continued use of the Extension after changes signifies acceptance of the updated policy.
